Mid Beds Dive Club

Welcome To Mid Beds Dive Club
(aka Sine Qua Non)

The Mid Beds Dive Club was formed way back in the mists of time when land animals did not exist and all life on Earth was in the ocean. Well it seems like that long ago but was actually 1992. We formed, initially as Sine Qua Non and to this day we don’t have a definitive meaning for our name – so we opted for a name change to something more obvious….. Mid Beds Dive Club…which does exactly what it says on the…well you know. We’re based in Mid Beds (near Biggleswade) and we go diving – simple as that.

We are mixed bunch of lads n’ lasses with a common interest in scuba diving and abilities ranging from those just starting diving through to very experienced. We don’t currently have a “salty old sea dog” type, but if you fit the bill you are welcome to join us. In fact everyone is welcome to join us, regardless of his or her experience or training agency. We are a BSAC branch and our training is governed by the BSAC but other agency trained divers are welcome …. so much so that our Diving Officer is a PADI trained diver.

Club meetings are held in a local pub every Wednesday, starting at half eight and finishing at last orders. These gatherings are used to complete any club business, and as an opportunity to catch up on the gossip and plan future diving. Club nights are relaxed and welcoming; one of the benefits of beinga small club is that new members can quickly get to know everyone. We’re a very friendly club, with none of the politics sometimes associated with larger groups of divers – our members are in it for fun!

About the BSAC

The BSAC was formed in 1953 and is now the largest single diving club in the world with over 45,000 members. The BSAC has branches and schools throughout the UK and training centres all over the world. Mid Beds Dive Club is one of many branches in the Eastern region, and as a member of MBDC, you automatically become a member of the BSAC.

The BSAC has a clearly structured qualification programme, with progressive training to each stage. Basic training is carried out under supervision by qualified instructors, first in a swimming pool and then in sheltered open water. Theory lessons supporting the practical sessions are also completed before a diver receives their Ocean Diver certification. After that it’s up to you – many members continue their training up to sports diver level, and more experienced divers may wish to consider dive leader training. We are able to offer training to dive leader standard within MBDC, and have good links with Eastern region to support divers wishing to progress to Advanced Diver level.

The BSAC also encourages divers to undergo further training to extend their experience and knowledge in specialist areas, and offers a number of Skills Development Courses to support members learning and improvement enjoyment of their diving.
